Moving Forward

After graduating from Yale Law School, Caminker clerked for Ninth Court Judge William Norris. He was a CLIPI fellow from 1987 to 1988, where he worked on the Hillside Federation case which stopped approval of building permits that were inconsistent with applicable community plans.

After CLIPI, Caminker clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan Jr.  He then practiced law at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C., before transitioning into academia. He was on the UCLA Law faculty from 1991 to 1999, when he joined the University of Michigan Law School faculty, serving as its dean from 2003 to 2013. His scholarly work has focused on constitutional law and judicial decision-making.
