Impact at CLIPI
Lee joined CLIPI as a staff attorney in 1983 supervising civil rights litigation until 1988. During his tenure, Lee focused on civil rights enforcement, including cases involving employment discrimination and police misconduct. His work at CLIPI contributed to his reputation as a dedicated civil rights advocate.
Following his time at CLIPI, Lee rejoined the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) as the director of its Western Regional Office. In 1997, President Bill Clinton appointed him as Acting Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice, a position he held until 2001. After his government service, Lee continued his civil rights work in private practice and with various advocacy organizations.
